The practice covers Gwynedd, Ynys Môn, Conwy and the northern half of Ceredigion, which is a small enough patch that we know where the ground is difficult before we price it. That is most of what a client is buying: not the instruments, which anyone can hire, but the judgement about how long a job will actually take when the track washes out and the tide turns at half four.
We have deliberately not grown past a size where a director can visit every site that goes wrong. Seventeen people is four field crews, three in the drawing office, a hydrographic team of two, and enough overhead to answer the phone.
Standards
The practice is regulated by RICS and is a member of The Survey Association. Work is carried out to the RICS measured survey specification, PAS 128 for utility detection, and IHO S-44 for hydrographic survey, and the applicable standard is named in every fee proposal rather than assumed.
| RICS | Regulated firm, chartered land surveyors |
|---|---|
| TSA | Member, audited to the association’s scheme |
| CAA | Operational authorisation for UAV survey flight |
| Quality | ISO 9001 certified, externally audited annually |
| PI cover | £5,000,000 each and every claim |
| Public liability | £10,000,000 |
| Safety | CHAS accredited; all field staff CSCS carded |
People
Four of the seventeen have been here more than a decade, which in this trade is unusual and is the single biggest reason a repeat client gets the same crew.
| Elin Morgan | Director. Land survey, boundary and expert work. Chartered since 2004. |
|---|---|
| Rhys Talfan | Director. Hydrographic and coastal. Twelve years offshore before this. |
| Marged Puw | Associate, measured building and laser scanning. Runs the Revit output. |
| Iwan Bevan | Associate, engineering survey. Setting out, monitoring, adjustment. |
| Sara Ellis | Survey manager. Programming, control networks, everything that closes. |
The whole office works bilingually in Welsh and English. Drawings, reports and site markings can be issued in either or both, at no extra fee.
How we price
By the day, against a stated tolerance and a stated deliverable, with the field and office components shown separately. A fee proposal that gives one number and no breakdown makes it impossible for a client to see which half is the expensive one, and it is nearly always the office half.
Where a job can be done cheaper at a looser tolerance, we say so in the proposal and quote both. Where it cannot be done properly for the budget, we say that too and decline, which happens perhaps a dozen times a year.
Accessibility
This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. Every colour pair in both display modes was measured rather than estimated; the section tool on the front page can be operated entirely from the keyboard, and every reading it produces is also available as text. Motion is reduced automatically when the operating system asks for it.
The office at Doc Fictoria is at ground level with step-free access from the quay and an accessible WC. Parking is on the quay, thirty metres from the door, with one accessible bay. If you need a meeting somewhere easier to reach, we will come to you.
If any part of this site or our documents is difficult to use, tell us and we will fix it and re-issue. Reports can be supplied in large print or as tagged accessible PDF on request.
Terms & privacy
Graticule Survey Ltd is registered in England and Wales. Surveys are supplied under our standard terms of engagement, issued with every fee proposal and available on request before you commit to anything.
Copyright in survey drawings and models remains with the practice until the invoice is settled, at which point a licence to use them for the stated project passes to the client. Re-use on a different project is a conversation, not a refusal.
We hold client contact details and job records for as long as the archive is maintained, which is indefinitely, because a boundary question can arrive twenty years later. Enquiry details submitted through this site are used to answer the enquiry and nothing else. To see what we hold about you, or to have it removed, write to the office and we will respond within one month.
Levels are reduced to Ordnance Datum Newlyn unless a site datum is agreed in writing. Any survey is a record of conditions on the date of measurement.
